The Suomi-Gambia Yhdystys was registered in 1994 and is domicile in Helsinki.
It is formed primarily to help foster unity, cooperation and provide practical help and support to Gambians living Finland.
The organization is comprised of about 200 members, and these include Gambians, their families, Finns and other interested persons and friends of the Gambia. The association is administered by an executive board directly elected by the general membership. The board is composed of the following positions:
i) Chairperson and assistant
ii) Secretary and assistant
iii) Treasurer
iv) Public Relation Officer and assistant
The executive board meets once every month to discuss about the affairs of the association. It is the board that is responsible of running the affairs of the association and it reports directly to the general body. A general body meeting is held once every three months and all members are invited to the meeting. All major decisions and plans are discussed in the general meeting. In order to effectively implement the plans and aims of the organization, the executive board has created subcommittees that work on different fields and domains. Currently, the subcommittees are:
Project & Development, Youth & Sports, Cultural & Social, Education and Religion
